Admission for individuals

Admission to individual courses at KBA13 Academy is open. There is no competitive selection, no entrance examination, and no requirement to hold a prior degree.

That is a deliberate position. The Academy teaches applied professional competence, and the people who most need it frequently do not have a formal qualification in the subject: the programme officer who must assess operating-environment risk, the journalist working with contested claims, the civil servant asked to evaluate an AI proposal, the researcher whose degree never covered verification. Screening those people out on credentials would exclude precisely the audience the Academy exists to serve.

What is required instead is honest self-placement. Introductory courses assume no background in the subject. Intermediate courses assume the introductory material and move to applied method. Advanced courses assume working competence and spend their time on hard cases. Enrolling above your level produces frustration rather than acceleration, and the course catalog filters by difficulty for exactly this reason.

Prerequisites

Prerequisites are stated on each course page and are enforced rather than advisory.

Where a course requires prior study, that requirement exists because the material genuinely depends on it. A learner cannot productively study structured analytic techniques without having internalized the distinction between fact, inference, judgment, and assumption, and a course that admitted them anyway would waste their time and money.

Most learners should begin with an introductory course in their subject area even when they hold professional seniority in an adjacent field, because introductory material is where the conceptual foundations are made explicit rather than assumed. Learners with directly relevant background may enter at intermediate level, and pathway pages state the entry point clearly.

Language is a practical prerequisite. Courses are offered in English and Indonesian, and studying at advanced level in a second language imposes a real comprehension cost that the learner should choose knowingly rather than discover afterwards.

What individuals should expect

Study is knowledge-first. Written explanation, frameworks, worked examples, exercises on real tasks, and assessed applied work carry the learning; video is supplementary and no course depends on it. The reasoning behind this is set out under learning philosophy.

Assessment is applied rather than recall-based. Learners take a genuine task, complete it properly, document the reasoning, and defend the result. Marking weighs reasoning and verification above polish, and every submission passes human academic review.

AI support is available as a study aid throughout, and is not authoritative. Where AI has contributed materially to submitted work, the contribution is disclosed, and submitting AI-generated analysis as verified work is an integrity failure regardless of whether the content is correct.

Study is self-paced within each course. Turnaround on assessed work depends on human review capacity rather than on submission speed, which is a deliberate constraint described on the faculty page.

Admission for institutions

Institutional admission works differently. Organizations do not enroll into an existing course; a programme is built for them.

The process begins with needs assessment rather than with a catalogue, because the training an organization requests and the training it needs frequently differ. Assessment establishes what the organization must be able to do, who needs the capability, what already exists, what constraints apply, and what would count as success. It can conclude that training is not the right intervention, in which case advisory work through KBA13 Consulting is the more honest recommendation.

Assessment is followed by a written proposal and quotation stating objectives, curriculum, delivery format, cohort size, schedule, assessment approach, certification, price, and explicitly what is out of scope. Pricing is quoted per engagement rather than listed, because cohort size and customization depth vary substantially. Where participants are senior leaders rather than practitioners, sector-specific executive programs are usually more appropriate.

Costs and recognition

Pricing for individual courses is pending owner approval, and some resources may be free. Institutional programmes are quoted individually.

Completion is recognized through one of six certificate types described on the certification page. All are non-degree. They confer no academic credit, no SKS, no ECTS, and no accreditation, and KBA13 Academy is not a degree-granting university.

Anyone intending to rely on a certificate for a formal academic or regulatory purpose should confirm acceptance with the receiving institution before enrolling. Every certificate carries a certificate number and verification URL so that the record can be confirmed independently.

If you are unsure where you sit, open the course catalog and filter by difficulty and duration rather than by subject first. Constraints are usually more binding than preferences, and a course you can realistically finish at the correct level is worth considerably more than an advanced one you abandon.
