The School equips learners to understand culture without stereotypes; analyze social practices in historical and institutional context; conduct ethical ethnographic and virtual ethnographic inquiry; interpret ritual, religion, identity, power, and everyday life; study online communities, platform cultures, and algorithmic mediation; examine artificial intelligence anthropologically; understand social change in Southeast Asia, Indonesia, and Aceh; analyze conflict, peace, disaster, and resilience; and apply anthropological insight to education, policy, institutions, technology, and public life.
Vision
A globally accessible School with distinctive strength in the anthropology of religion, Islamic societies, Southeast Asia, Indonesia, Aceh, ethnography, virtual ethnography, digital anthropology, platform society, the anthropology of AI and knowledge, and peace, conflict, disaster, and resilience.
