Strategic Research

Long-range questions, trends, risks and strategic implications for states, regions and institutions.

Overview

Strategic Research

Strategic Research addresses questions whose answers matter over years rather than weeks: the trajectory of Indonesian democracy, the balance of power in the Indo-Pacific, the long-term effects of AI on knowledge and sovereignty. It favours structured frameworks, explicit scenarios and indicators that can be monitored over time.

Projects in this programme typically produce strategic reports, scenario sets and briefing series. Because long-range claims are easy to make and hard to verify, every strategic project defines in advance the signals that would confirm or overturn its conclusions, and schedules a public audit.

Typical questions

  • Where is the system heading over five to twenty years?
  • Which drivers are structural and which are contingent?
  • What early signals would change the assessment?
  • What strategic options follow for decision-makers?

Approach

  • Horizon scanning and driver mapping
  • Probability-weighted scenarios
  • Indicator-based monitoring
  • Scheduled forecast audits

Typical outputs
